About our lineage: Gitananda Yoga
The International Centre for Yoga Education and Research (ICYER- Gitananda Yoga Center or Ananda Ashram) was founded by Dr. Swami Gitananda:
Yogamaharishi Dr. Swami Gitananda Giri Guru Maharaj had spent most of his eighty-eight years in the propagation of Classical Rishiculture Ashtanga Yoga. Dr. Swami Gitanannda Giri, a Pramhansa Sannyassin, was active in all phases of Yoga and conducted an international Yoga movement. He was the Mahant of the Brighu Yoga (Vedic) Order, one of the oldest order of Sannyassins in India, as well as Mahant of the Subramaniyan Yoga order of South India.
The Paramparai (tradition) that he inherited is a fusion of Classical Ashtanga Yoga promulgated by Yogamaharishi Swami Kanakananda Brighu of Bengal, and the South Indian Siddha Yoga tradition as exemplified by the Shakti, life and teachings of the great South Indian Siddha-Yogi, Srila Sri Kambali Gnananda Desiga Swamigal of Pondicherry.
